Re: Release of Kevin Garratt from Chinese prison

Dear Prime Minister,

The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC) joins together with all Canadians in celebrating the news of the release of Kevin Garratt, a Canadian citizen, husband and father, and a devoted Christian.

We commend you, your team, and all the government departments that assiduously worked together to realize this outcome for Mr. Garratt and his family. We are grateful for your persistence in securing Mr. Garratt’s freedom, and your defence of the core Canadian principle of freedom of religion.

Mr. Garratt had been detained in China since 2014. For 30 years, Mr. Garratt and his family lived in China and were committed to bringing humanitarian assistance to the people in that region.

As Canadians, we are proud of their dedication, humanitarian compassion and uncommon sacrifice on foreign soil. As Christians, we are inspired by their steadfast dedication to their faith under such difficult circumstances.

Thank you for your work on the Garratt’s behalf.

Sincerely,

Bruce J. Clemenger
President, The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada

Cc:  The Hon. Stéphane Dion, Minister of Foreign Affairs
