Outgoing Letters and Public Statements

Mrs. Cathay Wagantall, MP
House of Commons
Ottawa, Ontario  K1A 0A6

Dear Mrs. Wagantall,

The EFC is pleased to support your private member’s bill C-225, also known as Cassie and Molly’s Law. This bill will increase Criminal Code protection for pregnant women and their preborn children.

The tragic story of Cassie Kraake, who was seven months’ pregnant when she and her preborn daughter Molly were murdered in 2014, clearly illustrates the gap in the Criminal Code and the need for this change.

As Molly’s father Jeff Durham has explained, this bill communicates the loss that is experienced when a pregnant woman and her preborn child are both deliberately harmed during the commission of an offence.

This bill also takes an important step in addressing and deterring violence against women.

We appreciate your initiative on this behalf

Sincerely,

Julia Beazley, Director, Public Policy
